In September 1979, Professor Wang enrolled in Central College of Finance, majoring in Finance. He received the Bachelor of Economics In July 1983 and Master Degree in Economics in July 1986. In September 1991, he entered Renmin University of China and achieved his Ph.D degree in Finance in July 1996. His Doctoral Thesis has been awarded as the First National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis by Ministry of Education of P. R. C and Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. During September 1986 to September 1989, he relocated to Development Research Center of the State Council to conduct researching and consulting work. During April 1987 to June 1987, he has served as a visiting scholar to University of New South Wales, Australia.

After his postgraduate in 1986, he has become a teaching faculty in School of Finance, Central College of Finance. In 1987, 1988 and 1992, he has become a lecturer, associate-professor and professor respectively. In 1988, he has been an associate-chairman, and then in 1993 the chairman of Department of Finance. In 1994, he was appointed as the vice dean of university. After the name change of the university to Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE for short) in 1996, he became vice president. He has been president of CUFE since 2003.

His major social responsibilities include: Vice-Chairman of China Society for Finance and Banking, member of academic committee of CSFB; Vice-Chairman of Beijing Economics Federation; Executive Member of China Urban Financial Society, member of academic committee of CUFS; member of Social Science Committee of Ministry of Education of P. R. C, Vice-President of Economics Teaching in Colleges and Universities Steering Committee, Vice-President of Economics and Management of China Council for Self—Taught Higher Education Examinations, etc.

His research focus includes Monetary Theory and Policy, Economical and Financial Development and so on. He received first prize on National Teaching Achievement, in both 2001 and 2005. Since 1982, he has published more than one-hundred academic papers in Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Economical Research, Journal of China Social Science, etc. His academic publications include Financial Contribution and Efficiency During Economy Developing, Financial System Reform and Monetary Study, China’s Economical and Financial Development During Economical Globalization(Chief-Editor), Brief Review of the Researches Conducted in Western Countries on Monetary and Financial Theories in the 20th Century(Chief-Editor), China Financial Reform: History Experience and Reform Pattern(Co-authored), etc. He is also the chief-editor of 4 books, including Central Banking Theory, Financial Intermediation Theory, Financial Market Theory and Contemporary Western Finance Theory. He presided and participated in several National Projects, in which he has achieved National and Ministerial level awards.
