Osmanthus smells sweet in this golden autumn. In the morning of October 23, 2015, the opening ceremony of the joint PhD program in Finance of Central University of Economics and Finance and Tilburg University is held at Academic Hall Room 702. The ceremony is hosted by assistant dean of school of finance of CUFE Xueyong Zhang. 20 new students and some teachers were presented at the ceremony.

Party Secretary of CUFE Shaolin Fu firstly brought greetings at the ceremony. He welcomed the presence of guests and students, congratulated the successfully hosting of the program and expressed his gratitude for the hard work of Chinese and foreign teachers in the process of application and recruitment of the program. Secretary Fu indicated that this program had significance in exploring and setting an example in the field of internationalization of higher education in Finance, as well as in CUFE’s subject construction and talent development.

President of Tilburg University Dr. K. M. (Koen) Becking thanked for Secretary Fu’s greeting. He mentioned that this is the 20th year since the cooperation of two universities, and this ceremony is the best summary of the 20-year close cooperation. He showed his pride for the rich fruits of the past cooperation. At last, he sent his wishes that all the potential doctors will graduate smoothly.

Dean of TIAS Business School of Tilburg University Prof. Dr. Kees Koedijk expressed his pleasure to attend this ceremony. He introduced the origin of TIAS Business School and the role it plays in commerce and society at first. In the meantime, he expressed his pleasure to cooperate with CUFE closely and expectation of the rich fruits and prospect in the future. In the end, he encouraged the students by quoting a Chinese saying “A journey of one thousand miles begins with one step”.

Dean of School of Finance of CUFE Liqing Zhang thanked for the supports and efforts of the two universities. The process of application and recruitment is finished successfully, however, a good start if only a half success, both sides should work harder to gain the other half success. He was hopeful and confident to see that all the students could harvest success in the graduation ceremony in four years.
