Professor DavidDickinson from the University of Birmingham, UK, Taught Behavioral FinanceCourse at School of Finance

From April 6thto 23rd, 2018, Professor David Dickinson from the University of Birmingham cameto the School of Finance to teach Behavioral Finance for graduate students. Theproject was funded by the International Cooperation Office's 2017 InitiativeProject – the Key Foreign Specialist Project (Project No.: ZCJX20180003). Theresearch areas of Professor Dickinson include Monetary, Macro-policy and Finance.His main research interests are Financial Economics (including Financial DepartmentReform), Bank Behavior Models, Portfolio Performance, Stock Prices, and ExchangeRates.

 

ProfessorDavid Dickinson had shown a deep understanding of the field of BehavioralFinance during his teaching process. Before the course began, ProfessorDickinson conducted a conversationwith the students about knowledge reserves, introduced the interesting field ofbehavioral finance, and recommended a reading list. During the course,Professor Dickinson elaborated on contents related to consumption-based capitalasset pricing theory (C-CAPM), bubbles, overreact, herd behavior, overconfidence,noise trader model etc.. Combining with different forms like charts, formulasand examples, he explained the various theories of behavioral finance in asimple and easy-to-understand way.Professor David Dickinson had always attached great importance to theinteraction with students during the teaching process, and encouraged studentsto put forward questions, which have benefited the students a lot. ProfessorDickinson emphasized it is very important that the models are able to explainthe real world, so in addition to the standard models, the field of behavioralfinance has been born. Besides he also encouraged students to actively explorethe choices and decision-making behaviors of people in the real economic life, and he believed that in thisway greater breakthroughs and progress in the field of behavioral finance canbe achieved in the future. 

 

After thecourse, the students applauded Professor Dickinson and had a lively discussionwith him.
