The course “Internet Finance” for our graduate students started formally on March 6th, 2015, at classroom 102 in west area of Central University of Finance and Economics Shahe Campus. Following the successful introduction of this course last year, this time was the second exploration of educational revolution. This course was hosted by Professor Li Jianjun, the Vice Dean of the School of Finance. As a course keep up with the trend and paying attention to the practice, it was popular with graduate students from its first introduction last spring and achieved remarkable educational results. Responding to the requirements of teachers and students, this course was introduced as open optional course again this semester. Before the formal lecture, Professor Li Jianjun, the head of this course, firstly introduced the background, aim, main contents, teaching staff team and evaluation methods and requirements of the course. Then, he introduced the lecturer. Students were enthusiastic and there were no empty seats in the classroom which could occupy 190 people.

The topic of the first lecture was “The venture capital of Internet finance”, delivered by Mr. Luo Mingxiong, the CEO of Jingbei Finance-Beijing Jingbei Investment Management Ltd and the director of Internet Finance Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He taught humorously and used “looking for the pigs on a place where there is a draught” as the subtitle, to talk about the problems concerning the venture capital in Internet finance.

At the beginning, Mr. Luo Mingxiong presented a picture in which a pig was flying in the sky and explained how to be a successful investor. He thought that the reason the pig could fly was that it went to the place where there was a draught by chance and its wings were the core competitiveness. The methods to invest successfully could be summarized as “look for the place where there was a draught, look for the pig or become the pig”. The place where there was a draught was the trend and opportunities of the times. To invest successfully, one should look for a good company and program based on the good grasp of the industry developing trend. Next, Mr. Luo Mingxiong introduced the essence of the venture capital, that was to find good program and got into it with a cheap price. He introduced many valuable investing programs and summarized the operating mode of investment company.

Mr. Luo Mingxiong explained the essence of Internet finance. He thought that in Internet finance, finance was the essence while Internet was a method, means and tool, which was just an attributive. The trend nowadays should not be called “finance without media” but “finance changing media”, which meant that the media of finance changed from the former bank, securities and insurance to the Internet company. Taking Jingdong Finance, Weixin and P2P as example, he explained the operating mode of new media. In the teaching process, Mr. Luo Mingxiong gave many pertinent advice and instructions to students in their study, life and career. He advised students to consider carefully about their career planning and continue thinking in the future career. Meanwhile, he suggested that students should have their own networking, learn to contact others and have the speaking and writing ability.

The first course ended in a relaxing and happy atmosphere. Mr. Luo Mingxiong welcomed students to come to his company for internship. Professor Li Jianjun listened to the whole course and participated in the interaction. After class, students felt that they benefited a lot and looked forward to the second lecture whose topic was the innovation of Internet finance business.
